An arc perimeter is a classic manual medical device used to map the outer limits of a patient's peripheral vision. It features a metallic, semi-circular curved arm marked in degrees that rotates around a central fixation point to test how far to the sides a person can see.
How an Arc Perimeter Works
- Fixation target: The person places their chin on a rest and stares straight ahead at a centre dot with one eye covered.
- Moving stimulus: A small white or coloured marker slides along the curved metal arc from the outside edge toward the middle.
-
Recording points: The exact angle where the patient first spots the target is recorded.
Purpose
Measures peripheral vision loss from conditions like glaucoma, neurological issues, or retinal detachment.
